This photo shows the buildings at Slirå. The gray tower, to the left, is the former weather station at Slirå. The red building is the lengthmen's house, where they and their families lived until 1964, nowadays it is a private house. The lengthmen's house was built in 1907, and the architect was Paul Armin Due. The gray building, in the background, is the navvies' old cottage. This photo shows the weather station at Slirå. It was here the lengthman got some of his meteorological data to report to Finse at 04:00, 07:00, 13:00 and 19:00 all days of the year. He also, worked to keep his length of the Bergen Railway in good condition. That meant hard physical work, and long working days in an Arctic climate. (Photo at 13:24:44, August 1 2006)
The navvies' old cottage at Slirå was built in 1901. Since then, three more rooms have been added, the latest one in the early 1950s. Probably, has this been done to get more space for a workshop, and storage. (Photo at 13:26:07, August 1 2006)
